Think of this game and the first thing that comes to our mind is the raw aggression with beefy men clashing with each other for ball possession. It’s a game meant for the tough. And for we Indians where people just eat, sleep and talk cricket, Rugby is a sport more seen on TV then played on the grounds.

So when one get to see the fairer sex fighting for the ball, displaying some raw power on the grounds, it does come as a surprise. Not anymore though. As with time, things are changing and the sport is gaining considerable following among the girls back home. Though in its infant stage, it’s attracting the attention of the girls from other sports, who are ready to try their hands in a game considered to be a male bastion.

For his fans, he was no less than Maradona and Pele, who symbolized the hopes and aspiration of the whole nation as far as football was concerned. His personality attracted all and his humbleness left people awestruck. His smile was infectious and when he ran with the Tri-colour, the crowd used to go berserk in joy and admiration.

Bhaichung Bhutia for sure was a treat to watch on the field. A perfect symphony of skill, class and consistency, Bhutia enriched the game with his impeccable ways.

But then all good things come to an end and so has the champion’s career. Bhutia has called it a day, leaving a big void to fill in Indian football.

Virdhawal Khade created history in 2010 Asian Games 2010 by winning a bronze medal in the men's 50m butterfly event, as he became the only Indian to win a medal in aquatics at the mega event since Khajan Singh won the silver at the 1986 Games. He also holds the distinction of being the fastest swimmer in his age category. 

He recently qualified for London Olympics 2012 and his nomination for this year’s Arjuna Award just proves his exemplary skills in swimming.

In an exclusive chat with Akshi Aggarwal of Indian Sports News, he talks about the honour and respect he has received post Asian Games win and his preparations for the Olympics 2012.

Ace Indian marksman Gagan Narang, who has been representing the country’s shooting contingent for last 13 years, has been conferred with the country’s highest sporting award -- the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna -- by the Sports Ministry of India. The ace shooter won the award for the year 2010, where he performed exceptionally and won four gold medals at the Commonwealth Games held in India. With this achievement, he became the fifth shooter to have won this prestigious award.

10 years ago when basketball was still in its infant stages in India, Rajesh Patel, a man with immense determination, took a bold step and set up a basketball academy named Chhattisgarh Basketball Academy (CBA) in the steel city of Bhilai. CBA, formed in the year 2001 with a mission to groom players from the neighborhood, has served as a haven to the aspiring cagers from within the region and all across the country. The academy, which started off with a total of five students, now houses a total of 30.
