Small Wonder: The Master Of Sixty-Four Squares

His heart beats for cricket and everyday he gets up in the morning fantasising about the game. 12-year-old Aravindh Chithambaram spends most of his time swinging the different bowling styles and practicing batting strokes with anything and everything that comes handy -- for that matter he doesn’t even mind using water bottles, stones or anything that fits his tiny hands.

Golf, Hockey, Tennis -- Nikki Has Done It All In Sports



She dreamt of featuring in the Indian National hockey team and things were moving smoothly in the right direction until she faced an injury while practicing in one of the women’s national camps. But perhaps destiny had something else in store for her. While her love for wearing the blue kept her away from books, the injury scare made her realize the importance of education and she started taking it seriously thereafter.

HimmatHimmat Singh Rai is on a high after his maiden Asian Tour win at the ISPS Singapore Classic 2011. He has been doing quite well on the Asian and PGTI Tour with a win each on both the circuits compared to last year when he finished in top 20 twice on the Asian Tour. After winning the PGTI Players Championship in February 2009, he has been consistent in his performance and has been aptly keeping his reputation of being the bright hope of Indian golf intact.

Presently playing the DLF Masters 2011 on his home course, in a conversation with Akshi Aggarwal of Indian Sports News, he talks about his win at the Asian Tour and upcoming plans. Excerpts:

She is all in one. Having represented at competitive levels in many sports including roller skating, netball, cue sports apart from basketball, Shireen Limaye is multi-talented youngster; but the 16-year-old says her heart beats for basketball the most.



At an age when most of the kids are still in the process of learning to stand on their feet, this toddler had already become a regular face on the basketball courts. With her mother being a basketball player and a coach at PYC Hindu Gymkhana, Pune, leaving this six-seven –month-old child alone at home wasn’t a feasible option. Hence Shireen Limaye started accompanying her mother Suvarna Vijay Limaye to the courts and thus began her foray into the world of sports at a very tender age.

Seven world champion titles at just 25 years of age! No one could ask for more. But the hunger to remain on the top is what makes Pankaj Advani different from others.

“I’m always hungry for more titles,” says the champion, who holds the distinction of being the youngest to feature in the IBSF World Billiards Championship at the age of 18. One of the players who have taken cue sports to new heights in India, Pankaj Advani has won many coveted awards including the Padma Shri and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna. In the recently concluded World Championship he lost to Mike Russel of England in the finals.

In an exclusive chat with Akshi Aggarwal of Indian Sports News, Pankaj talks about his journey so far and his approach towards life. Excerpts:

A mere quote which reads, “Gentlemen play hockey, boys play football and men play rugby” was enough to inspire this youngster from Kashmir to try his hands in rugby. He fought past all adversities, negotiated with all tribulations and reached the place he always aspired to.

Steven Delano "Steve" Smith is a retired American basketball player and played with several teams in his 14-season National Basketball Association career, including the Miami Heat, the Portland Trail Blazers and the San Antonio Spurs. He is perhaps best known for his five-year stint with the Atlanta Hawks, which included an All-Star Game appearance in 1998. He won a championship with the Spurs in 2003. Smith was widely regarded as an excellent three-point shooter and an experienced veteran. He is one of three players to make seven 3 pointers in a quarter.

In an interview to Samikshan Dutta Choudhury of Indian Sports News, he spoke about NBA and India, his experience, etc. Here are the excerpts:

For him weightlifting started at Veer Hanuman Circus and Physical Training Club in Berhampur, but he never knew then that one day he would be standing in the Rashtrapati Bhavan to receive the covetous Arjuna Award for his feats in the same sport. Though Ravi Kumar isn’t new to honours and awards post the 2010 Commonwealth Games where he won a gold medal with a record lift in the CWG 2010, but Arjuna Award was something he never expected so early.

“It’s an honour and the award will only motivate me to do better,” said the champion lifter, who has struggled hard in life to reach to this position.
